Review: Penggunaan vitamin C pada sediaan kosmetik

Abstract

Latar belakang: Kulit merupakan organ yang melindungi tubuh dari berbagai rangsangan di luar tubuh serta menjadi alat penunjang untuk penampilan yang menarik. Berbagai permasalahan kulit seperti jerawat dan bekas jerawat, flek hitam, kulit kusam, dan keriput dapat mengganggu penampilan seseorang, sehingga sangat penting untuk melakukan perawatan kulit. Metode: Penelitian dilakukan dengan studi pustaka, dengan mencari literatur berupa jurnal menggunakan media online. Jurnal yang digunakan sebanyak sembilan jurnal dengan rentang waktu terbit jurnal dari tahun 1999-2022. Hasil: Vitamin C memiliki berbagai manfaat seperti antioksidan dengan mendonorkan elektron pada radikal bebas, sebagai antiaging dengan menjadi kofaktor untuk mengubah prokolagen menjadi kolagen, mencerahkan kulit dengan mengubah melanin yang berwarna gelap menjadi agak pucat, dan mengatasi hiperpigmentasi dengan menghalangi aktivitas enzim tironase sehingga melanin yang dihasilkan berkurang. Kesimpulan: Vitamin C banyak digunakan pada sediaan kosmetik dengan konsentrasi 3-25% (emulsi), 10-23,8% (serum), 10-25% (losion), 2% (gel), dan 0,5-5% (krim).
