Terdapat perdebatan panjang mengenai teori konflik Karl Marx, terutama kritik terhadap teori ekonomi politiknya. Jika dikaji secara kritis memang terkesan bahwa teori Marx tentang masyarakat merupakan teori masyarakat ideal karena dalam teori itu Marx sangat menekankan perlunya pemerataan ekonomi, keadilan sosial yang menjangkau semua lapisan masyarakat dan tidak adanya kelas dalam masyarakat.
