Improving The Viability Of Sawo Seeds That Have Been Scarified Through Soaking In Young Coconut Water

Abstract

Generative cultivation of sapodilla has a long time to germinate because the hard seed coat is difficult to penetrate water and air and low permeability causes the seed dormancy period to be longer. Efforts to overcome these problems are by scarifying the tip of the seed and soaking using natural growth regulators using young coconut water to accelerate the increase in the viability of sapodilla seeds that have been scarified. This study used a completely randomized design. The factor studied was the oncentration of young coconut water with 5 levels of treatment repeated 5 times. The treatments are: k0 = Control (distilled water), k1 = 25% young coconut water, k2 = 50% young coconut water, k3 = 75% young coconut water, and k4 = 100% young coconut water all treatments were soaked for 24 hours. Variables observed included growth uniformity, germination, growth speed, plumula length and radicle length. The results showed that the treatment of various concentrations of young coconut water on the germination of clarified sapodilla seeds did not give a significant effect on the variables of germination, germination, growth speed, and plumula length, but had a significant effect on radicle length, so it can be concluded that the use of several concentrations of young coconut water is as good as distilled water in accelerating the germination process of clarified sapodilla seeds and no concentration was found.
