ABSTRACT

In the current era of globalization, competition between human resources is increasing. To produce reliable and highly competitive human resources, higher education has a strategic role in producing human resources that can meet current conditions. Higher education as an educational institution that has the potential of human resources must be able to compete with other universities so that it can produce quality human resources. For this reason, universities must optimize their human resources. Employee performance is one of the goals that is expected to make a positive contribution to the growth and success of higher education. To improve employee performance, there are three significant components to examine out of various factors that affect employee performance, namely Work Motivation, Job Satisfaction, and Employee Engagement. The purpose of this study is to analyse how work motivation and job satisfaction can affect employee performance with employee engagement as a mediating variable. In the current era of globalization, competition for human resources is increasing. This research was conducted at the Politeknik Negeri Pontianak with a total sample of 167 people. The data analysis method used is the Structural Equation Model Partial Least Square (SEMPLS). This study uses the SmartPLS 4 software. The hypothesis in this research are H1: Work Motivation has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. H2: Job satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. H3: Work Motivation has a positive and significant effect on Employee Engagement. H4: Job Satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on Employee Engagement. H5: Employee Engagement has a positive and significant effect on Employee Performance. H6: Employee Engagement mediates the effect of Work Motivation on Employee Performance. H7: Job Engagement mediates the effect of Job Satisfaction on Employee Performance. All hypotheses from hypothesis 1 to hypothesis 7 are acceptable because they all show a significant and positive relationship. As the results of the mediation effect analysis show that Employee Engagement acts as a mediating variable with partial mediation on the relationship between Work Motivation (X1) on Employee Performance (Y) and Job Satisfaction (X2) on Employee Performance (Y).
