THE INFLUENCE OF COMPENSATION AND WORK MOTIVATION ON THE PERFORMANCE OF TEACHERS IN SMA SANTO PAULUS PONTIANAK WITH JOB SATISFACTION AS AN INTERVENING VARIABLE

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze how compensation and work motivation affect teacher performance with job satisfaction as an intervening variable. In this era of sophisticated technology developments, humans are required to get a good education in order to be able to master the use of technology and be able to manage the company as optimally as possible. In the world of education, the passing grades of the students are often a measure of the success of a school. That is why teacher performance plays a crucial role for schools to create quality competitiveness. Even though a school has other good resources, if the teachers are of less quality, then the school will have difficulty in achieving its goals. To improve teacher performance, there are three significant components to study, which are compensation, work motivation, and job satisfaction. This research was conducted at SMA Santo Paulus Pontianak with the sample of 41 teachers. The data analysis method used is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and Partial Least Square (PLS) using SmartPLS 4 software. The hypotheses in this research are; H1: compensation has a positive and significant effect on teacher performance; H2: Work motivation has a positive and significant effect on teacher performance; H3: Compensation has a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction; H4: Work motivation has a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction; H5: Job satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on teacher performance; H6: Job satisfaction mediates the effect of compensation on teacher performance; H7: Job satisfaction mediates the effect of work motivation on teacher performance. All hypotheses in this study can be accepted, because all hypotheses show a significant and positive effect. Also, the results of the mediation effect analysis show that job satisfaction as an intervening variable has a partial mediating role in the effect of compensation on teacher performance and on the effect of work motivation on teacher performance.
