UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI FRAKSI n-HEKSANA KULIT BUAH MANGGIS (Garcinia mangostana L.) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN Shigella flexneri SECARA IN VITRO
Abstract
Background: diarrhea is one of the health problems that still needs moreattention especially in developing countries such as Indonesia. Shigella
flexneri is a bacterial isolates were found in most cases of diarrhea. Based
on scientific information about Garcinia mangostana L., this plant has a
potentcy as an alternative treatment of antibacterial. Objective: the aimed
of this study was to determined the antibacterial activity of n-hexane fraction
of mangosteen peels (Garcinia mangostana L.) and the effective
concentration to inhibit growth of Shigella flexneri Method: mangosteen
peels were extracted by maceration method using 90% methanol then this
extracts was fractionated using n-hexane. The chemical compound of nheksane
fraction was screened by phytochemical screening. Antibacterial
activity was conducted by using well diffusion with concentration of 5%,
10%, 20%, and 40%. Ciprofloxacin 5μg/hole was used as positive control
and DMSO 10% was used as negative control. Result: the phytochemical
screening of n-heksana fraction of mangosteen peels is contains alkaloids,
flavonoids, quinones and terpenoids. Concentration of 40% is the highest
concentration that has great antibacterial effect of all various concentration
tests but this concentration only moderate inhibition zone (p=0,000). The
inhibition zone of each concentration has decreased at 48 hours incubation.
Conclusion: n-hexane fraction of mangosteen peels has antibacterial
activity against Shigella flexneri.
