NILAI EKONOMI DARI PENDIDIKAN

Pendidikan dalam pandangan tradisional tidak memberikan dampak langsung bagi perekonomian masyarakat. Konsep pendidikan sebagai sebuah investasi (education as investment) telah berkambang secara pesat. Pidato Theodore Schultz pada tahun 1960 yang berjudul “Investment in human capital” dihadapan The American Economic Association merupakan letak dasar teori human capital modern. Bowman, mengenalkan suatu konsep “revolusi investasi manusia di dalam pemikiran ekonomis”. Para peneliti lainnya seperti Becker (1993) dan yang lainnya turut melakukan pengujian terhadap teori human capital ini. Sekarang diakui bahwa pengembangan SDM suatu negara adalah unsur pokok bagi kemakmuran dan pertumbuhan dan untuk penggunaan yang efektif atas sumber daya modal fisiknya, pengeluaran untuk pendidikan harus dipandang sebagai investasi yang produktif.
