AKTIVITAS ANTIOKSIDAN DAN KANDUNGAN FITOKIMIA DARI EKSTRAK KULIT BUAH PINANG SIRIH MUDA DAN TUA (Areca catechu L)
Abstract
Tumbuhan pinang (Arecca cateccu L) umumnya sering digunakan untuk obat. Tumbuhan ini mulai dari daun, batang, serabut hingga bijinya dapat dimanfaatkan. Pinang memiliki kemampuan sebagai antioksidan, antimutagenik, astringent, antiseptik dan antibakteri. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui perbedaan aktivitas antioksidan dan kandungan fitokimia pada kulit pinang sirih muda dan tua (Areca cathecu L). Metode yang digunakan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidannya yaitu menggunakan metode DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl). Hasil pengukuran aktivitas antioksidan menunjukkan nilai IC50 ekstrak kulit pinang muda sebesar 56,6 ppm, sedangkan ekstrak kulit pinang sirih tua sebesar 67,50 ppm. Ekstrak kulit pinang sirih muda dan tua tergolong ke dalam sifat antioksidan kuat.
