Abstract

Katuk has the main composition of the green leaf substance, which functions as a place for photosynthesis in plants. The green pigment content in katuk leaves is known as chlorophyll. This study used the pheophytin compound from katuk leaves. Feofitin was isolated from air-dried katuk leaf extract. Isolation of the pheophytin compound used the column chromatography method with five eluents, namely petroleum ether : cyclohexane: ethyl acetate: acetone: methanol (6:1,6:1:1:0,4) v/v, so that a pure pheophytin fraction was obtained which had coloured spots. Grey (Rf 0.65). The pheophytin compound obtained was characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometer in acetone, methanol and N-hexane solvents. The formation of pheophytin is indicated by the appearance of absorption in the range of 410, 505, 535, 606 and 665 nm. The UV-Vis spectra of pheophytin show the spectra of a shift in the wavelength absorption peak in the range of 600 nm.
