Abstract

The Malay community of Pulau Kumbang Village utilizes natural resources including animals can be seen from the livelihood of local people who still rely on natural products around forest areas and in the sea for needs. Information and local knowledge of the community regarding the use of animals in Pulau Kumbang Village by the Malays are still poorly known. The purpose of this study is to record and examine species used by the Beetle Island Malay Community for treatment, parts used, how to use, processing and conservation status of each species used by the Malay Community in Pulau Kumbang Village, Simpang Hilir District Kayong Utara. The data collection method is carried out by survey methods, interviews and using purposive sampling techniques, namely determining respondents deliberately carried out. The results of the study found 15 species of animals used by the Malay Community of Pulau Kumbang as treatment. The animal parts used as medicine are the whole body, flesh, bile, bones, shells, skin, mucus and blood. Processing and methods of use with various flavors, especially used directly without being processed, coated, boiled, fried, ground, grilled, filtered and made into oil by using dimimun, eaten, applied and sorted according to the directions in the use of drugs. Animal Conservation Status for medicine there are 4 species of animals included in the category P.106 of 2018. IUCN category there is 1 species of animal in the Cristiclly endangered (CR) group or critically threatened, Vulnerable (VU) category or vulnerable to being threatened by 2 types of animals, Lest Consern (LC) or low risk there are 6 species of animals, there is 1 type of animal in the Data Deficient (DD) category or data lacking data. The CITES category in Appendix I has 2 species of animals and Appendix II there are 2 types of animals.
