IMPROVING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION THROUGH GROUP WORK TECHNIQUE

Skripsi ini adalah untuk meningkatkan tingkat pemahaman belajar membaca siswa melalui teknik kerja kelompok di SMPN 14 Pontianak kelas VII. Penelitian adalah jawaban dari permalasalahan yang dialami atau diselusuri bagaimana meningkatkan kemampuan siswa melalui teknik kerja kelompok, informasi umum mengenai teks bacaan di kelas VII tahun akademik 2013. Penulis melakukan penelitian sebanyak tiga kali pertemuan dikelas. Dalam pengumpulan data, penulis melakukan tindakan collaborator sebagai administrasi penulisan tes untuk mengetahui pemahaman siswa dengan teks narrative, observasi ceklist table keduanya untuk observasi guru dan siswa tindakan teknik melalui kerja kelompok, catatan pada table sebagai tindak lanjut dengan siswa dalam meningkatkan bacaan mereka dalam tiap-tiap pertemuan dan siswa diberi penugasan sebagai sebuah dukungan untuk data dalam menemukan informasi langsung dari siswa. Hal ini, pada catatan juga dilakukan pencatan setiap kejadian dalam proses belajar mengajar.

ABSTRACT

This thesis is a study on improving students’ reading comprehension through group work technique to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 14 Pontianak. This research is intended to answer the problem to investigate how through group work technique improves students’ ability in finding the meaning of words and mentioning the detail information from the generic structure of reading  text to the seventh grade students in academic year 2012/2013. The writer applied a classroom action research which consisted of three cycles in which the writer as the collaborator in the classroom. The writer applied collaborative action research because the writer is not the English teacher at SMP Negeri 14 Pontianak in academic year 2012/2013. In collecting the data, the writer who acted as a collaborator administered written test to know the students’ understanding of narrative text, observation checklist table to observe both the teacher and students’ action on applying trough group work technique, field notes were applied to reflect the students’ improvement in their reading in every cycle and students’ assessment as a supporting data in order to get more information directly from the students. In addition, the field notes were also used to take notes of everything in teaching learning process.
