IMPROVING STUDENTS"™ LEARNING INTEREST IN MASTERING VOCABULARY USING MICROSOFT POWERPOINT IN SMPN 2 BENGKAYANG

Abstract: This research is aimed to improve the students"™ learning interest in mastering vocabulary using Microsoft PowerPoint. Common activity which was done by the teacher in teaching learning process using blackboard and chalk were subtituted by using Power Point Slide with LCD Projector, sound system, etc. Through those devices the material presented in audio visual, colorful, and real picture in order to make the students interested in learning English. So, the technology was important to arouse the students"™ interest in learning English, especially in mastering vocabulary. The research methodology applied in this research is action research with two cycles in which each cycle starts from planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The data collected was the qualitative data from observation, field note, interview, and document. The study revealed that the implementation of PowerPoint has succeeded in improving the students"™ learning interest and vocabulary mastery. That the implementation of PowerPoint has significant improvement to the teacher teaching competence, I would like to propose some suggestions for the English teachers, especially those who teach in Junior High School to apply media to conduct the teaching learning process in the class, improve their acquisition of knowledge about ICT in teaching and provide more chance for the students to practice their English during the lesson.
