Abstract

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to determine whether there was a significant difference of achievement between student who taught using problem solving learning and conventional model, and to determine effect size of problem solving learning model towards learning outcomes. The form the research was intact group comparison type at pre-exprimental design. The sampels were chosen based on the purposive sampling technique. The XI science classe of SMAN 4 Sungai Raya had divided intotwo groups which are exprimen and control classes based on thermochemistry score. The tools of data collection on this research  were achievement test and interview guideline. According to data analysis on postttest used T test, the probability was asymp.sig 0,0000 (0,000 < 0,05) which meant there was a significant different of achievement between students who thought  a problem solving learning and conventional model. According to the calculation using cohens formula, the effect size of problem solving learning model towards learning outcomes was 1,6 which meant categorized as excellent.
