Abstract

In learning language, vocabulary has important role because its function to help the students in expressing their intention, especially in learning Mandarin.   However, Mandarin has both a lot of vocabulary and types of vocabulary itself which is not convenient to master them as well. As a result, the writer used picture to help students in recognizing and reading the vocabulary.

The aim of this research to identify whether or no picture whether can improve the students"™ skill in memorizing vocabulary. The object of this research was the students of SMA PancasilaKubu Raya. The finding showed that after exercising by using picture, the percentage of student"™s error decreased from 66.5 % in the pretest to 14% in the post test. In conclusion, using picture as media in teaching Mandarin can help students to improve their skill in memorizing the vocabulary.
