Abstract

This study aims to analyze how much influence the contextual approach to poetry writing skills of fifth grade students of Public Elementary School 41 Kuburaya District. The method used is an experiment with pre-experimental design. With the research design of one group pretest-posttest design. The population of all students amounted to 25 people as an experimental class with a sample of 25 people consisting of 10 men and 15 women with non-probability sampling technique with saturated sampling type. Data collection techniques used are measurement techniques and data collection tools are essay written tests. Based on data analysis, the results of the average post-test experimental class 52,743. The results of hypothesis testing using t-test (polled variance) obtained t count of 10.512 and t table (α = 5% and dk = 41-1 = 40) of 2.021. Because t count (10,512)> t table (2,021), thus Ha is accepted. So it can be concluded that there is an effect of contextual approaches to students' skills in writing poetry. Based on the results of the effect size calculation (ES) obtained ES = 0.2269 which included a low criteria.
