Abstract

This research aims to find out how the description of the ability to solve mathematical story problems reviewed from emotional intelligence students at MTs Negeri 1 Pontianak. The research method used is descriptive research method. Data collection techniques used are indirect communication techniques. Data collection tools used are math story problems, in the form of 4 questions and students' emotional intelligence questionnaire. Research data is analyzed descriptively. Obtained that students who have a high level of emotional intelligence can relatively understand the context of the problem, can determine plans to solve problems, can do calculations well and can draw conclusions well from the problems resolved. Students who have a medium level of emotional intelligence are able to understand the context of the problem, can determine the plan to solve the problem, are less careful in calculating to get answers to problems that are solved and can draw conclusions well from the problems solved. Students who have a low level of emotional intelligence are relatively unable to understand the context of the problem well, can determine a plan to solve a problem, are less careful in calculating to get answers to problems that are solved and have not been able to draw conclusions well from the problems resolved.
