Abstract
This pre-experimental research was aimed to investigate the use of ARIAS model to increase students"™ learning interest and to reduce students"™ misconceptions on subtopic heat in SMA Negeri 5 Pontianak. Sample of this research was students from XI MIA 1 class (N=29) who choosen by intact group random sampling technique. The questionnaire that used as research instrument to asses students"™ learning interest on heat, was adapted from 12 representation items of situational interest questionnaire in Linnenbrink-Garcia et al research. While the diagnostic test that used as research instrument to asses students"™ conceptions on heat, consist of 10 multiple choice questions with open reasoning. Based on the analysis of questionnaire data using the Wilcoxon test, therewas a significant increase in students"™ learning interest ( = 4,70; ;) with the average increase persentage equal to 36,2%. Based on the analysis of diagnostic data using the McNemar test, there was a significant students conceptual change ( = 169,86; ; ) with the average decrease of students"™ misconceptions equal to 82,13%. The use of ARIAS model were effective in increasing studens"™ learning interest (relatively medium with ) and effective in reducing students"™ misconception (relatively high with ). So this model is expected to be used as an alternative remediation activities to increase students"™ learning interest and to reduce students"™ misconceptions.
