Abstract

This study aims to know the contribution of areca farmers toward the education of farmar"™s children in the village of Punggur Besar   sub-district of Sungai Kakap, Kubu Raya district. Data sources in this study were 50 areca  farmers in Punggur Besar Village who have children still in school. The method used in this study was a descriptive method with relationship research study form. The research study from. The researcher used some steps in data collection such as, 1) direct communication technique (interview), 2) indirect communication tecnique (questionnaire) 3) documentary study tecnique (documentation). The results showed that the percentage of areca   farmer"™s income from areca sales was 54% as low income category, 28% in the moderate category, 14% in the high category and 4% in the very high category. The children"™s level of edocation was 69,7% in the basic education level, 25% was in the secandary education level and 5,3% was in the tertiary edution level. The calculation result showed X² 9,637 >X²table α=0,05 was 9,488. It can be concluded that Ha is accepted an Ho is rejected, which means that there is a contribution of areca farmer"™s income toward the edutication of farmer"™s children in Punggur Besar Village as the number of 14,9%, while 85,1% was obtained from other yield main of income or additional income.
