Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the critical thinking skills of 8th grade students was junior high school in 11 Pontianak by solving food additives problems. This research is a descriptive qualitative study. Thirty two students from class A were chosen using purposive sampling method which was considered the students"™ cognitive level based on science teacher recomendations. The food additives problem test from this study was adaptep by Ennis critical thinking guidelines. This study collected data from students' answer sheets and were corrected based on scoring which was intoduced by Association's critical thinking scoring rubric of America Collages and University. Students were also interviewed to classify students"™ level critical thinking category. These study results indicated that students' critical thinking skills in solving food additives problem were 9.38% category as highly skilled; others showed 68.75% and 21,88 % were category as skilled and less skilled of critical thinking abilities.
