THE USE OFGUIDED QUESTIONS FOR TEACHING WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXTS

Abstract
This research was conducted to find out whether guided questions affect students"™ writing descriptive text significantly. The population of this research was all of Year "“ 7 students of SMP Mujahidin Pontianak in Academic Year 2018/2019. The sample of the research consisted of 11 students who were chosen by using total population sampling. The research was pre- experimental research with pretest, posttest and three times of treatments. The data were collected by using measurement technique and the tool of data collection was written test. The finding of the research showed that the mean score of the students"™ pre-test was 52.72 while the post-test was 66.36. There is an increase of students"™ achievement by the different score 13.64. It showed that the ability of the students increased after the treatment was conducted. The tratiowas higher than the tcritical (8.97 > 2.228). The result of the effect size (ES) was 2.69 which was categorized as a strong effect (ES > 1.00). It showed that null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. It also proved that teaching writing descriptive texts using guided question gives significant effect to increase students"™ writing achievement.
