LEARNING ATMOSPHERE IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSROOM

Abstract
The purpose of the research was to describe the learning atmosphere in a high achievement English Class of MAN Model Singkawang. The participants were 30 students of XI IPA 3 and the English teacher. The method used in this research was a descriptive method. The data were collected through questionnaire, interview, and observation. The results revealed that the relationship among the students, the cooperation among the students, and the student task-oriented during class are very good. However, the results of student involvement in class and the student investigation are barely good. The students are lack of interest to get involved in the class. The lack of interest to get involved in the class are also lowered the use of the students"™ investigation skill during the study. Despite the good teacher support in creating a positive learning atmosphere for the students. The teacher also established a learning commitment to build a positive teacher-students relationship. Furthermore, the teacher implemented various teaching methods depending on the topic and situation and encouraged the student to participate actively in class by giving rewards for their participation.
