Abstract

Abstract This research aims to know the critical thinking skills of students before and after using pictorial riddle models and to know the effectiveness of using pictorial riddle models in ips subjects grade VIII SMPN 4 Jawai Kabupaten Sambas. This research is an experimental research with quasi experimental design with time series design type. The population in this study is all students grade VIII SMPN 4 Jawai Sambas Regency with class VIII sample B. The techniques used in this study are Direct observation techniques, direct communication techniques and measurement techniques. The average pre-test calculation of the experiment class was 53.43 with a standard deviation of 9.383. The average post-test calculation of the experiment class was 74.04, with a standard deviation of 8.094. The value of N-Gain critical thinking is 0.44, then obtained a critical thinking effect size value of 2.19. From the calculation stipulated that the use of pictorial riddle, the model is effective to improve the critical thinking ability of students in grade VIII IPS subjects in SMPN 4 Jawai Kabupaten Sambas.
