Abstract

This study aims to determine the structure and function of the folklore of Dayak Kerabat, Sekadau Regency. The research method used is descriptive with a form of qualitative research. The data source of this research is Mother Dayang as the speaker of the Dayak Kerabat folklore text and the data are structures and functions in the form of quotations of words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs. The results showed the themes of the four folklore stories of Dayak Kerabat, namely miracles, struggles in living life, the bitter sweetness of life, and friendship that led to hostility. There are two types of characters, namely 6 main characters, and 24 additional characters. There are five stages of the flow, namely the stage of adjustment, the appearance of conflict, increased conflict, climax, and resolution. Three settings, namely the setting of 23 places, the setting of 22 times, and the socio-cultural background of 12. There are four social functions, namely as a projection system, a social control tool, a child education tool, and as entertainment.
