Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this research is to develop an open test instrument and also to describe the existence of high-level thinking skills in students in class VII SMP Negeri 3 Pontianak. So this research includes development research. An open test was carried out using the define stage, namely front-end analysis, analysis of students, analysis of material, arranging test specifications; starting at the design stage, including: compiling instructions, writing items, limited test reproduction; the development stage is one to one, qualitative analysis, testing, quantitative analysis, revision, assembling test; the dissemination stage, is to mass produce. So that the results of the item analysis show that the open-ended test instrument is said to be in sync with the research indicators, so it can be used in measuring high order thinking. Meanwhile, from the results of the analysis of students' answers, it is drawn as a whole that the level of thinking patterns at a high level in grade VII students at SMP Negeri 3 Pontianak is said to be in the middle criteria position. The ability section of students, when viewed for each indicator: so that the analytical ability is at a high level, but the application ability is in medium criteria, if the ability to make is at very low criteria.
