Abstract

This study aimed to determine the positive and negative impacts caused by the
construction of a port on Kijing Beach for the added value of the community's economy
in Sungai Bundung Laut Village. The method used in this research was descriptive in
the form of qualitative research. The source of the data for this research was the Sungai
Bundung Laut village community who is directly affected by the construction of the
Kijing Beach port and the data was the result of observations, interviews, and
documentation. The results of the study indicate that there are: First, the positive impact
is the opening of new business opportunities in the Sungai Bundung Laut village that
occurs due to changes in livelihoods as a result of changes in land use, and the
absorption of labor provided by the project party, especially for the affected villagers,
and land acquisition which resulted in changes in community livelihoods where at first
the dominant livelihood in Sungai Bundung Laut village was as farmers, now many of
them have turned into entrepreneurs because of land acquisition the community gets a
profit which is partly used as venture capital. Second, the negative impact is population
mobility which makes people anxious about their sense of security, due to a large
number of people from outside the area who come to work on port projects, thus it is
creating job competition. Third, the added economic value that felt by the community is
income increasing, for some people who have switched professions as providers of food
stalls and grocery stores. It because the port development project has created many new
business activities in Sungai Bundung Laut Village.
