ABSTRACT
This research is motivated by the uniqueness of the shape and structure of the gambus musical instrument. The purpose of this study was to describe the materials and methods of making gambus musical instruments in the Malay community in Belitang 1 Village, Belitang District, Sekadau Regency. The form of this research is descriptive qualitative with an organology approach. Data analysis focused on problems related to Organology. The data sources are two gambus players and craftsmen. Data collection techniques with observation and interview techniques. Test the validity data using triangulation techniques. Data analysis uses three steps of analysis, namely data reduction, data presentation and verification. The results showed that the stringed instrument has a structure, namely the head, neck, stomach and tail. The manufacturing process on natural materials with skills in manual tools and assisted using machine tools to speed up the manufacturing process. The gambus musical instrument has a fairly complicated manufacturing process, the formation of a stomach resembling a half egg with a balanced side and dredging of the Tawang to the formation of the head of the gambus. The results of this study are expected to foster interest in studying art and preserving gambus musical instruments.
