Abstract

Metacognitive is one of the skills of the thinking process that plays a role in optimizing problem-solving capabilities.The form of research is descriptive correlational by survey method to investigate the relationship between an ability to apply metacognitive strategies and an ability to solve rigid body equilibrium problems. The sampling technique used is disproportionate stratified random sampling with the research samples are 60 students of class XI IPA SMA Negeri 6 Pontianak. Data collected used a questionnaire instrument related to an ability to apply metacognitive strategies consisting of 23 items and a rigid body equilibrium essay question consisting of 5 question items. Data were analyzed used a simple regression test by SPSS. Based data results of the study show that there is a potent and significant influence on the ability to apply metacognitive strategies and the ability to solve rigid body equilibrium problems with a correlation value (R) =0.620, F value =36.294, significance value =0.000 and substantial contribution of the ability to apply metacognitive strategies to the ability to solve rigid body equilibrium is 38%.
