Abstract
Modality Adverb is an adverb that emphasizes the tone of a sentence. Modal adverbs "Bing" and "You" are usually used together with the negative words "bu" and "mei" to strengthen emphasis or amplify a negative tone. In order to understand the condition of mastery of 2018 students in the Mandarin Language Education Study Program, FKIP UNTAN towards modality adverb "Bing" and "You", the writer uses the test method to examine students understanding and difficulties of that words. The results showed that the difference in the level of student mastery Modality Adverb of "Bing" was slightly better than "You". The percentage of correct answers for the word "Bing" is 59.96% and the percentage of correct answers for the word "You" is 54.36%. In the analysis of the types of difficulties, the writer realized that students lack mastery in the use of the word "Bing" is used with negative words to emphasize that the view or fact is not what is believed, and "You" is used in conjunction with negative words to strengthen the rhetorical question.
