Abstract
Synonyms are words that has the same meaning. "kongpa" and "haipa" are meant synonyms. These two words are often used in daily life. Judging from the meaning of the Indonesian word, it is often translated into the meaning of fear, although there are differences between the two words, students still cannot distinguish the function of the two words. so that when studying students are often wrong in the use of these two words.
In order to understand the mastery condition of Mandarin Education Study Program FKIP UNTAN 2018 students toward mastery of the synonyms words "kongpa" and "haipa", the authors used a test method to examine students' understanding and difficulties with the synonyms "kongpa" and "haipa". The results of the study stated that students' mastery of the synonym "kongpa" was better than "haipa". The percentage of correct answers for the word "kongpa" is 66.87% and the percentage of correct answers for the word "haipa" is 64.04%. In analyzing the types of difficulties, the writer realized that the students lacked mastery in the use of the word "kongpa" containing worries and doubts, and the tone of speculation was more serious and "kongpa" was also used as a verb to express concern, and the use of the word "haipa" had the meaning of "panic". psychologically before danger or hardship and As a verb, "haipa" can be used as a predicate in a sentence.
