Abstrack

This research is entitled "Socio-Economic Dynamics of Communities Around Oil
Palm Plantation PTPN XIII Gunung Meliau 1996-2014". The purpose of this
study was to describe how the transition of oil palm plantations from PTP VII to
PTPN XIII Gunung Meliau in 1996-2014 and how the impact of PTPN XIII
Gunung Meliau on the socio-economic conditions of the Meliau community in
1996-2014. From this research, it is known that in 1981 PTPN was established in
Meliau Regency which was brought by people from Pematang Siantar, North
Sumatra. Before becoming PTPN XIII this company was named PTP VII and
changed to PTPN XIII on March 11, 1996. In 2014 there was a change in the
capital structure followed by a change in the legal status of PTPN XIII (Persero)
to become a subsidiary of PT Perkebunan Nusantara III (Persero), causing
change of name from PT Perkebunan Nusantara XIII (Persero) to PT Perkebunan
Nusantara XIII. The existence of PTPN XIII Gunung Meliau has brought changes
to the social and economic life of the community, such as increasing public
awareness of the importance of education and health.
