DINAMIKA KEPRIBADIAN DAN MEKANISME PETAHANAN EGO TOKOH DALAM TRILOGI BARTIMAEUS KARYA JONATHAN STROUD

This study aims to determine the personality dynamics and egodefense mechanisms of the characters in Jonathan Stroud's BartimaeusTrilogy. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitativemethod. The source of data for the Bartimaeus Trilogy is data analysisin the form of quotes that have an indication of personality dynamicsand ego defense mechanisms. The results of the analysis found (1) Nathaniel's personality dynamics, namely life instincts, realistic anxiety, neuroticism, morals that reflect brave, irresponsible, vindictive, disobedient, conscientiousness, pessimistic, and negative neorotism characters (characters with negative moods) (2) the eightego defense mechanisms of Nathaniel's character, repression,reactionformation,manipulation,projection,regression,rationalization,displacement and sublimation. (3) the dynamics of Bartimaeus' personality, namely life instincts,realistic and neurotic anxiety which reflect intelligent,conscientiousness, manipulative, choleric, obedient, responsible andskeptical characters (4) six Bartimaeus ego defensemechanisms,repression, reaction formation, danial, projection, rationalization and
displacements. (5) Kitty's personality dynamics are life instincts,realistic anxiety, neurotic and morals that reflect brave characters,loyal friends, hard-hearted, full of ambition, choleric,
conscientiousness, and idealism. (6) the seven forms of Kitty's ego defense mechanism, repression, reaction formation, manipulation, projection, regression, rationalization and displacement
