Abstract

Semiotic Analysis of the Javanese Traditional Wedding Procession "Temu Maten" at Bintang Mas. This type of research is qualitative research, using descriptive method. data analysis using data analysis techniques Semiology Roland Barthes. Roland Barthes developed this technique into two levels, namely denotation and connotation to understand the meaning contained in the Javanese Temu Manten traditional wedding procession. The selection of informants used a purposive method with predetermined criteria, five research informants. Collecting research data obtained from interviews, observation and documentation. Data analysis techniques by reducing data, presenting data, inferring and verifying. The results of this study indicate that the process of meeting the manten ritual has several stages of ritual, namely, (1) The stage of meeting the bride and groom, Balangan Suruh (throwing betel leaves), Ngidak Tingan (stepping on eggs), Wijik Sekar Setaman (cleaning the groom's feet), Ujukan Tirto Wening (drinking water), Panggih (shake between the bride and groom), Ijol Kembang Mayang, Sinduran (leading to the aisle), (2) Stage at the aisle, Timbang Pangkon (holding the bride and groom), Kacar-Kucur, Dahar Kembul (bribes) , Mapag Besar, and sungkeman, while the messages communicated in the Temu Manten ritual are nonverbal messages based on behavior or actions, and the message is seen from the aspect of tradition, social aspect and aspects of Islamic teachings.
