This research was initiated due to lack of past studies regarding bebop improvisation and its application. Another reason why the author was interested in this topic was the fact that some young jazz musicians might not understand bebop improvisation. Bebop improvisations seem complicated and sound complex because they have chromatic notes in them and are usually played at a fast tempo. This study used a descriptive type through a qualitative method, which provides an overview of improvisation with the bebop approach. This study used a musicological approach, namely with western music theories. This research explained bebop improvisation and how to apply it. The notes in bebop improvisation are often more tortuous and have wide intervals, resulting in jumps between notes. The chord progression that often appears is ii-V-I which can be developed into several variations. Every chord that appears is often a dominant chord or one that usually appears in blues song patterns. The results of this research are expected to be used as teaching materials or reading material for novice jazz players or other art practitioners, especially in West Kalimantan.
