THE IMPLEMENTATION OF 3H STRATEGY TO IMPROVE READING COMPREHENSION THROUGH THINK PAIR AND SHARE FOR GRADE XI

Abstract

Abstract: The present classroom action research has three aims: to improve classroom behaviors in teaching and learning process in reading comprehension by implementing 3H (here, hidden, and in my head) strategy through think pair and share, to improve the students"™ achievement in reading comprehension, and to know the students"™ perception toward the implementation of 3H strategy in reading comprehension. The participants of the research were the students of Class XI IPA1 of "MAN 1 Pontianak" in Academic Year of 2013/2014. The classroom action research was conducted in three cycles. Observation checklists, field notes, recording, rating scale, focus group interview, and test were used as the research instruments. Based on the gathered qualitative and quantitative data during the implementation of the 3H strategy through think pair and share in reading comprehension class, the students"™ classroom behaviors were improved significantly. This improved behaviors resulted in the improvement of the students"™ achievement.

Abstrak: Penelitian tindakan kelas yang menerapkan 3H strategy (here, hidden, and in my head) melalui think pair and share untuk meningkatkan membaca pemahaman ini, mempunyai tiga tujuan yaitu untuk memperbaiki perilaku siswa dalam proses pembelajaran, memperbaiki nilai membaca pemahaman, dan mengetahui persepsi siswa terhadap strategi tersebut. Partisipan penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI IPA 1 MAN 1 Pontianak pada tahun pelajaran 2013/2014. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilakukan dalam tiga siklus. Lembar observasi, catatan lapangan, rekaman, tes, kelompok interview, dan skala penilaian digunakan sebagai instrumen penelitian. Berdasarkan data kualitatif dan kuantitatif  selama penerapan 3H strategy melalui think pair and share, perilaku siswa dalam proses belajar meningkat menjadi lebih baik. Perbaikan perilaku ini menghasilkan peningkatan pencapaian hasil belajar siswa.
