Pengaruh Suhu Aktivasi Terhadap Kualitas Karbon Aktif Berbahan Dasar Tempurung Kelapa

Telah dilakukan aktivasi arang tempurung kelapa dengan metode aktivasi fisika yaitu pemanasan pada suhu 500 oC sampai dengan 1000 oC dengan waktu pemanasan selama 3 jam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan karakteristik luas permukaan pori, kadar air, kadar abu, daya serap karbon aktif terhadap iod dan mengetahui pengaruh suhu aktivasi karbon aktif pada penjernihan air. Pada penjernihan air, metode yang digunakan adalah pengendapan selama ± 3 minggu dengan 200 mL air dan 20 gram karbon aktif. Arang yang digunakan berasal dari arang tempurung kelapa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karbon aktif yang mempunyai karakteristik terbaik adalah arang tempurung kelapa yang diaktivasi pada suhu 1000 oC dengan kadar air 7,7 %, kadar abu 0,84% dan daya serap terhadap iod 586,318 mg/g. Pengujian karbon aktif pada penjernihan air menunjukkan hasil yang maksimal ketika menggunakan karbon aktif dari suhu aktivasi 1000 oC dengan parameter perubahan fisik air yaitu warna air menjadi jernih, tidak berbau dan memenuhi pH standar air (7,0-7,5).
