Analisis Hubungan Konsentrasi Asam saat Hidrolisis, Derajat Kristalinitas dan Sifat Mekanis Selulosa Kristalin dari Serbuk Gergaji Kayu

Telah dilakukan penelitian untuk mengetahui sifat mekanis selulosa kristalin dari campuran serbuk gergaji kayu keras melalui proses hidrolisis menggunakan asam klorida. Tahap ekstraksi menggunakan larutan alkohol-benzena dengan perbandingan 1:2 dilanjutkan pelarutan dengan menggunakan NaOH dan Na2S, tahap bleaching menggunakan larutan hipoklorit 30% dan tahap hidrolisis asam menggunakan larutan HCl 37% dengan variasi konsentrasi HCl yaitu 2,5 ml/g, 8,75 ml/g dan 17,5 ml/g. Variasi konsentrasi asam dapat mempengaruhi derajat kristalin selulosa serbuk gergaji kayu dan derajat kristalinitas mempengaruhi sifat mekanis selulosa kristalin yang dihasilkan yakni semakin tinggi derajat kristalinitas maka kekuatan tarik, kekuatan putus dan modulus elastisitas juga semakin tinggi. Penelitian yang dilakukan menghasilkan derajat kristalinitas terendah pada konsentrasi 17,5 ml/g dan diindikasikan sebagai konsentrasi kritis sehingga menyebabkan selulosa bersifat anisotropis, sedangkan konsentrasi HCl 8,75 ml/g merupakan konsentrasi optimum yang menghasilkan derajat kristalinitas 74%, kekuatan tarik 20,1 kPa, kekuatan putus 17,6 kPa dan modulus elastisitas 1335 kPa.
