ANALISIS POROSITAS DAN SUSUT BAKAR KERAMIK BERPORI BERBASIS CLAY DAN SERAT TANDAN KOSONG KELAPA SAWIT

Pada penelitian ini telah dilakukan pembuatan keramik berpori berbasis clay dan serat tandan kosong kelapa sawit (TKKS) untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi TKKS terhadap porositas dan susut bakar dari keramik yang dihasilkan. Pembuatan keramik diawali dengan pencampuran clay dan TKKS yang telah lolos ayak 40 mesh serta dilakukan penambahan aditif berupa pasir silika sebesar 10% di dalam campuran bahan. Proses mixing dilakukan selama 15 menit dengan variasi komposisi TKKS 0%, 10%, 20%, dan 30% bobot. Pembentukan keramik dilakukan dengan cara cetak tangan dan dikeringkan pada suhu ruang selama 5 hari. Proses pembakaran menggunakan tanur hingga mencapai suhu 945oC dan ditahan selama 2 jam. Penentuan susut bakar diketahui dengan membandingkan massa dan volume keramik saat sebelum dan sesudah pembakaran. Sedangkan perbandingan antara massa kering dan massa basah sampel menunjukkan porositas keramik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sampel keramik dengan penambahan 30% TKKS memiliki nilai karakteristik tertinggi dengan porositas sebesar 78,37%, susut massa 25,52%, dan susut volume 1,44%. Material organik yaitu TKKS telah efektif digunakan sebagai pore-forming dengan penambahan hingga 30% bobot.
