Pengaruh Konsentrasi Aktivator Kalium Hidroksida (KOH) terhadap Kualitas Karbon Aktif Kulit Durian sebagai Adsorben Logam Fe pada Air Gambut

Telah disintesis karbon aktif kulit durian dengan Kalium Hidroksida (KOH) sebagai aktivator. Untuk melihat pengaruh konsentrasi aktivator KOH terhadap ukuran pori karbon aktif yang terbentuk dan kemampuan dalam mengabsorbsi logam Fe pada air gambut, sintesis karbon aktif dilakukan dengan dua tahap yaitu tahap karbonisasi dengan suhu 400 oC selama 2 jam dan tahap aktivasi dengan suhu 800 oC selama 2 jam.Sebelum diaktivasi, hasil karbonisasi kulit durian direndamdalam aktivatorselama 24 jam dengan konsentrasi aktivator 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% dan 25%. Karbon aktif kulit durian kemudian dikarakterisasi untuk mengetahui morfologi dan ukuran pori permukaannya dengan Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Dari hasil karakterisasi didapatkan bahwa semakin besar konsentrasi aktivatornya, semakin besar juga ukuran pori. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar Fe menurun seiring dengan meningkatnya ukuran pori dengan urutan kadar Fe 0,66 mg/L, 0,49 mg/L, 0,48 mg/L, 0,40 mg/L dan 0,38 mg/L. Karbon aktif yang berperan optimum dalam penyerapan logam Fe adalah karbon aktif dengan konsentrasi 25%, dengan ukuran rata-rata diameter pori 8,277 �m, yang menurunkan konsentrasi logam Fe sebanyak 85,38%, dari 2,6 mg/L menjadi 0,38 mg/L dengan waktu kontak 24 jam. Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwalogam Fe dalam sampel air gambut dapat semakin terserap ketika ukuran pori karbon aktif meningkat.
