Analisis Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) dari Variabilitas Antartahun dan Dekadal Anomali Tinggi Muka Laut (SSHA) di Laut China Selatan

Dengan menggunakan metode empirical orthogonal function (EOF) dari anomali tinggi muka laut (SSHA), variabilitas spasial dan hubungannya dengan pola sirkulasi atmosfer serta indeks iklim skala besar akan diteliti. Dari hasil analisis spasial anomali tinggi muka laut (SSHA) menggunakan metode EOF, ditemukan keterkaitan yang kuat antara respon SSHA Laut China Selatan terhadap mode iklim dekadal yakni Pacific Decadal Oscillation. Variabilitas spasial ini turut digerakkan oleh mode musiman dan tahunan seperti monsun dan ENSO, khususnya di beberapa sub-area. Namun, secara umum korelasi spasial dari PDO terhadap SSHA lebih besar dibandingkan nilai korelasi ENSO. Ketika PDO sedang memasuki fase panas atau dingin yang cukup kuat, maka nilai anomali tinggi muka laut menjadi lebih rendah, begitu pula sebaliknya. Stress angin serta sirkulasi gira skala meso menjadi penggerak utama siklus permukaan di Laut China Selatan.
