Laban (V. pubescens) is a bushy plant which has an herb stem. People, who live in the villages in West Borneo, use it to heal lower back pain and diarrhea. The aim of this research were to understand the secondary metabolites contained Laban fruit extract, which represented three different levels of its ripeness (raw, half-ripe, and ripe), and the antibacterial activity in Laban fruit extract to inhibit the S. thypi and S. aureus growth. This research was done by using diffusion method. It confirmed the presence of secondary metabolites such as flavonoid, alkaloid, polyphenol, and terpenoid in Laban fruit extract. The antibacterial testing after an incubation of 48 hours showed that 100% concentration of half-ripe Laban fruit extract produced an inhibition zone diameter of 2,21 cm toward S. thypi, whereas the ripe Laban fruit extract produced inhibition zone diameter of 2,46 cm toward S. aureus, which categorized as very strong inhibition activity.Downloads
