Abstract

The Kapuas River, located in Kapuas Hulu Regency, serves as the main water source for the surrounding residents, both for daily needs and for economic and transportation activities. However, the quality of the river water is increasingly threatened by the rise in human activities, which has the potential to increase the level of microorganism contamination, particularly koliform bacteria. This study aims to analyze the density and identify koliform bacteria in the Kapuas River water. The methods used include water sampling from three locations in the Kapuas River, laboratory testing using m-Endo agar LES and m-FC agar media, density counting using the membrane filter method, and identification based on morphological characteristics and biochemical tests. The research results show that the density of Koliform Bacteria in the Kapuas River, Putussibau District, is quite high at three research locations, with total Koliform ranging from 22.666 to 30.333 CFU/100mL and fecal koliform ranging from 17.833 to 23.833 CFU/100mL, with no significant differences between locations. Based on bacterial identification, three main genera were found, namely Citrobacter, Enterobacter, and Proteus, detected through morphological and biochemical tests.
