Abstract

Sandblasting is an effective method for cleaning metal surfaces from rust, paint, oil, and other contaminants by spraying high-pressure abrasive materials. Surface cleaning can be carried out in various ways, such as using sandpaper, wire brushes, grinders, and other tools. However, cleaning surfaces using sandpaper and wire brushes is time-consuming and requires considerable effort. Research indicates that variables such as air pressure, abrasive grain size, nozzle angle, and nozzle distance affect the quality and efficiency of the sandblasting process. This study aims to analyze the effect of spraying distance and spraying angle on paint removal results using a sandblasting tool. The research method used was an experimental approach with variations in spraying distance (10 cm, 15 cm, and 20 cm) and spraying angle (15°, 30°, 90°, and 180°), while maintaining a constant air pressure of 6 bar and a spraying time of 10 seconds. The test specimens were iron plates coated with six layers of paint, each layer having a thickness of 1 mm. The results showed that both distance and angle significantly influenced the cleaning results of each spraying condition. The optimal spraying distances were found to be 10 cm and 15 cm. At a spraying distance of 20 cm, the cleaning results varied depending on the spraying angle, and the best spraying angle was identified as 90°. This can be observed from the results at a 20 cm distance, where spraying angles of 45° and 90° were able to remove the paint down to the first layer and the base material. However, overall, the spraying results at a 90° angle covered a wider cleaned area compared to those at a 45° angle.
