Abstract

Coal is a source of energy used in generating electrical energy and of course has an influence on the thermal efficiency produced by the PLTU. One of the factors that influence thermal efficiency is the calorific value of coal. The use of low calorie coal is based on several things including production, reserves, and the price of coal itself. However, coal with low calories causes a greater use of fuel because it has to meet the heat requirements to convert water into steam. In this study, the analysis of coal quality used the As Received (AR) method. The results obtained using calorie coal 3.953 kcal/kg, namely the largest power generated by unit 3 of 140,75 MWh has a thermal efficiency of 19,12% and a specific consumption of 1,210 kg/kWh and the smallest power generated by unit 2 is 100,69 MWh has a thermal efficiency of 18,67% and a specific consumption of 1,239 kg/kWh. While the results obtained using calorie coal 3.791 kcal/kg, namely the largest power generated by unit 3 with the greatest power of 140,78 MWh has a thermal efficiency of 19,05% and a specific consumption of 1,273 kg/kWh and the smallest power generated by unit 2 amounting to 93,35 MWh has a thermal efficiency of 18,63% and a specific consumption of 1,302 kg/kWh.So, the data shows that when the power generated is large it causes a large thermal efficiency but the specific fuel consumption decreases, while when the power generated is small it causes a small thermal efficiency but the specific fuel consumption increases.
