Abstract

Heat exchanger is a tool used to exchange energy in the form of heat. The development of technology for the use of heat exchangers in the industrial world is the reason the author makes research on heat exchangers. The heat exchanger made is a double pipe type heat exchanger. This heat exchanger is the simplest heat exchanger and is more often used for the learning process about the working principle of a heat exchanger. This study aims to determine the value of the effectiveness of the heat exchanger that has been made by the author. The research will be carried out on a double pipe type heat exchanger by varying the temperature of the incoming hot fluid. The inlet fluid temperatures used are 40 °C, 45 °C, 50 °C, 55 °C, 60 °C. The cooling fluid uses a temperature of ±29 °C. The flow rate of the heat fluid volume is 1.65 l/minute, and the cool fluid volume flow rate is 2.65 l/minute. The results of the analysis of the effectiveness of the heat exchanger that has been made. (A) effectiveness on countercurrent flow (%): first, second, third, fourth, and fifth trials, (12.15%), (12.18%), (14.08%), (14.40 %), (15.36%). (B) effectiveness on one-way flow (%): first, second, third, fourth, and fifth trials, (15.39%), (16.56%), (16.50%), (16,34%), (17.10%). From several tests it was found that the direction of fluid flow can affect the effectiveness value, where in one-way fluid flow the effectiveness value is better.
