Abstract

In the industrial world, many companies still use conveyor belts for distribution and production some products. One of the industries that uses conveyor belts to date is the power generation industry, especially power plant that use coal as fuel. The power plant still uses coal as fuel is Steam Power Plant (PLTU). The type of conveyor belt most widely used in PLTU throughout Indonesia is Fire Resistance type belt (FR/DIN K/JIS K). This conveyor belt is a rubber type. Usually, for installing conveyor belts, several connection methods are used for carcass fabric types. In several PLTU methods, the most frequently used connection methods are cold splicing and hot splicing. However, the problem that often occurs with conveyor belts is broken connections. This research was conducted to find out the best connection between cold splicing or hot splicing. The standard for making test samples uses ASTM D3039 standard. Where in connecting the two methods, the thickness of the glue and the gluing time are varied. Variations in glue thickness were 0.2 mm, 0.4 mm and 0. 6mm. Meanwhile, the gluing time varies, namely 10 minutes, 20 minutes and 30 minutes. The result of tensile tests carried out on all test samples showed that the best value was hot splicing with a thickness 0.2 mm and a gluing time 10 minutes.
