Abstract

The process of turning tempe into chips requires slicing, which is carried out manually by the entrepreneurs in Bayur Rempangi Village, Sungai Laur District, Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan Province. Currently, the slicing process is done manually, resulting in a lengthy process and uneven slices. Therefore, a machine is needed to address these issues. The objective of this research is to design and build a slicing machine with varying numbers of blades. An analysis is needed to determine the components of the machine, including the electric motor, spring, and pulley, as well as experiments to test the machine and identify the most effective and efficient number of blades. The tempe slicer machine is designed with specifications including a 0.25 Hp motor, a spring with 122.5 N/m stiffness, 12-inch and 2-inch pulleys, and an estimated capacity of 80 kg/hour. For the blade variations, it was found that using 2 blades was the most effective and efficient, as it produced a higher quantity of well-sliced tempe (around 80%) with a slicing speed of 43 seconds per kilogram
