Analisis Pengaruh Komposisi Terhadap Nilai Uji Impak Pada Material Komposit Hybrid Serat Pinang Dan Serat Kelapa

According to the results of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of West Kalimantan, coconut production in the past year reached 78,351 tons. On the other hand, based on West Kalimantan"™s 2023 statistical data, areca nut (pinang) production amounted to 1,312.75 tons. The abundant availability of both plants is one of the reasons the author utilized their potential in the production of composite material products. The objective of this research is to compare the impact test results of natural fiber composites with the impact test value of ABS material, which is recorded at 13.48 kJ/mm or 0.01348 J/mm ² according to ISO "“ 179 standard. This study aims to analyze the effect of the composition of areca nut fiber and coconut fiber on the impact test value of hybrid composite materials. The hybrid composite material was fabricated using the hand lay-up method, utilizing polyester resin and areca nut and coconut fibers as reinforcement. These natural fibers were treated by soaking in a 5% alkaline (NaOH) solution for 2 hours to enhance the bonding between the fibers and the matrix. Impact testing was carried out using the Charpy method in accordance with ASTM D6110 to measure the material"™s resistance to impact loads. The results of the study show that the composition of fibers and resin significantly affects the impact test value. The highest impact value was obtained with a composition of 50% coconut fiber and 50% resin, reaching 0.0885 J/mm ², which exceeds the impact value of ABS material (0.01348 J/mm ²). The conclusion of this study is that hybrid composite materials made from areca nut and coconut fibers have the potential to serve as environmentally friendly alternative materials that can be used in industry, particularly for applications requiring resistance to impact loads.References
