Abstract

Handphone is mobile device and as a
media that is able to do various communications
data which users are able to acces internet anytime
and anywhere. Based on this condition, comes the
will to develop a spesific application in mobiles
device which needs a lot of mobiling. Collage
students has needs for academic informations and it
is very important to them. Application that can
make students access their academic information
through handphone has to be developed. Therefore,
a technology that can make collage student access
their academic informations through handphone is
highly needed and Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) can
do it. This application can hopefully help and make
collage students access their academic informations
easier through their handphones with General
Packet Radio Services (GPRS) as it"™s network. The
applications is made based on mobile from
handphone that supports Java. Client-server
application which is called midlet, is installed into
the handphone. To be connected to the server, this
application is using GPRS as a connection. The test
result shows that this application can access
academic information online with GPRS network, so
collage students can use this application anywhere
and everywhere as far as the operator mobile can be
reach.
