TERRITORIALITY/SEGMENTARITY OF BETING VILLAGE PONTIANAK CITY
In architecture, rivers can form a territory with the presence of settlements on the banks of rivers. Indonesia has many rivers, including Pontianak City which has the Kapuas River with Beting Village as one of the historical residential areas on the banks of this river. Rivers and ditches form social spaces and village territoriality, such as being a liaison between adjacent villages, as well as being a regional barrier of each Neighborhood Unit. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to show the process of territorialization / segmentarity that exists in Beting Village due to the existence of rivers and ditches and supporting architectural elements, including how they impact the social conditions of residents. This research uses qualitative descriptive method with "territoriality and segmentarity" approach conducted through direct observation in the field. The results showed that the presence of gertak can strengthen territoriality in Beting Village. While deterritorialization occurs when gertak material that was originally wood is replaced into flat-shaped reinforced concrete. This condition even hinders the circulation of canoe users who pass through the ditches. Canoe users then get around by choosing a low tide time so that they can pass through the area under the bridge connecting the bluff, although it reduces traffic intensity, this can be called a reterritorialization effort in Beting Village. It is hoped that these findings can make a reference to how to design architectural elements that consider the territoriality of a place as a social space.
