Abstract

Pawon adalah sebuah ruangan yang terletak di bagian belakang rumah masyarakat Sunda dengan fungsi utama untuk memasak. Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh fenomena para wanita sunda yang sangat suka menghabiskan waktunya di pawon, seperti suka mengobrol, membuat kue, mengasuh anak, bahkan ngerumpi. Lokasi penelitian di Kasepuhan Ciptagelar (Sukabumi), Naga (Tasikmalaya), dan Dukuh (Garut) dengan melakukan wawancara, sketsa, dan foto. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap fenomena aktivitas sosial, ritual, dan sakral para wanita Sunda di pawon. Metode penelitian menggunakan etno-arsitektur dengan melibatkan diri secara langsung dengan masyarakat. Hasil penelitian menemukan tiga hal pokok pada pawon: (1) Ruang sosial terkait dengan kehidupan para wanita Sunda sebagaimana tertuang dalam kalimat "silih asah, silih asih, silih asuh" dan "manusa jeung kamanusaanana"; (2) Ruang ritual yang berkaitan dengan upacara adat untuk menghormati Tuhan dan leluhurnya sebagaimana tertuang dalam kalimat "manusa jeung karuhunna"; (3) Ruang sakral sebagai pengikat ruang batin para wanita Sunda yang berhubungan dengan waktu suci.
